Stewart is a Senior Associate in our real estate team, specialising in acting for developers, investors and funders of energy and infrastructure projects.
He delivers strategic property advice to renewable developer clients of solar, wind and battery storage, and is experienced in securing the necessary property rights, from initial land referencing through to final investment decision and construction. He is also experienced in providing property support to compulsory purchase orders and in the provision of certificate of title to funders and equity investors including for large scale offshore windfarm projects.
Stewart also regularly provides real estate support in corporate transactions relating to the renewable energy sector.
- Acting for a range of developers in the negotiation of option agreements and leases for numerous renewable energy projects across Scotland, and providing advice during the construction and operation phases.
- Acting for a developer in a major repowering project of an existing onshore windfarm.
- Acting for a major investment landowner in the sale of their wind and forestry portfolio, including the draft and negotiation of certificates of title with the buyer and their funders.
- Acting for a number of offshore wind developers in providing strategic property advice in connection with their land acquisition strategy in respect of onshore transmission infrastructure.
- Acting for a major port operator in securing expanded rights from Crown Estate Scotland to expand and redevelop their existing port to support use by offshore windfarm developers. This also consisted of providing advice on a subsequent option agreement with an offshore windfarm developer for the right to sub-let areas within the port.
- Acting on in the sale of a multi-technology, multi landowner renewable energy site, including the preparation of Certificates of Title to the purchaser.
Clients include ScottishPower Renewables and prior to joining Shepherd and Wedderburn he advised on renewable energy clients including SSE Renewables, Seagreen Winde Energy, Berwick Bank Wind Farm, together with other developer and investor clients.
