His real estate experience includes advising on development projects from inception to disposal, the sale and purchase of investment assets, landlord and tenant, real estate finance and corporate sales and joint venture arrangements. In energy, his focus is onshore wind, new nuclear and grid stability.
Energy
- Advising on new nuclear projects at Hinkley Point, Sizewell and Bradwell, including land assembly, competition-imposed disinvestment strategies, securing vacant possession, removing development constraints, facilitating operational matters and negotiating joint venture agreements.
- Advising on a number of grid stability projects to secure sites for synchronous compensators, including option and lease agreements (both core site and mobilisation areas), interface agreements with grid, securing ancillary rights, crossing agreements, delivering bio-diversity net gain and landscape mitigation strategies. Also advising on the OFTO portfolio which is managed by the same client.
- Advising a leading European renewables developer on a number of onshore wind projects securing land and mineral rights to facilitate development. Advising another developer on solar projects.
Real estate
- Advising leading commercial office provider on numerous office acquisitions throughout England and Wales for blue chip occupier clients. These transactions involved negotiating a market-standard head-lease with institutional landlords, an agreement for works and a bespoke lease with in-premises services for the ultimate occupier.
- Advising on a number of prime City office site developments, including site de-risking, structuring joint venture arrangement (including by contractual agreement, limited partnerships and limited companies), funding and pre-letting.
- Advising on the development of a prime City office site, with geared City of London headlease, one of the few s237 (now s203) appropriations to overcome rights to light issues undertaken in the City of London, and the sale of the packaged and de-risked development opportunity to an international developer investor.
- Managing the England and Wales extensive and varied estate of a global firm providing engineered services and products to the oil and gas, defence, entertainment, logistics, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries. Transactions involve leasing, surrenders and freehold acquisitions and disposals.
Other
- As lead partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn for well-known technology-based grocery distributor, acting on distribution sites with client-specific requirements, particularly around the protection of intellectual property.
- Acting for a range of lenders (and some borrowers) on loans secured on development sites, student accommodation, built to rent assets and office/retail assets.
- Advising two leading tech companies on their London and Thames corridor occupational requirements.
- Structuring diverse joint venture arrangements, including by contractual agreement, limited partnerships and limited companies.
- Advising corporate occupiers on the development, leasing and fit-out of office space in the City of London, the West End and throughout other English cities and regions.
