Andrew advises clients on the full spectrum of employment law issues – from defending employer clients in employment tribunal proceedings to advising clients on the people aspects of mergers, acquisitions and restructuring exercises. Those clients span a range of sectors including energy, manufacturing, entertainment, food and drink, transportation, healthcare and the third sector. With particular expertise in offshore energy, his knowledge of the sector helps him to secure successful outcomes in complex situations, including those with an international element.

Andrew regularly appears for clients in employment tribunal and employment appeal tribunal proceedings throughout Great Britain. He has represented clients before the Aberdeen, Bristol, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Manchester and Newcastle employment tribunals and the employment appeal tribunal in Edinburgh, successfully defending claims on behalf of clients for breach of contract, discrimination, unlawful trade union inducement, unfair dismissal, unlawful deduction from wages and whistleblowing, among many others.

He also frequently delivers training to senior managers and human resources teams on a broad range of employment law topics, and often speaks at industry events such as All Energy, the cHeRries conference, DisruptHR and CIPD North of Scotland and Islands.   

  • Acting for the TechnipFMC group of companies in the successful defence of a union backed claim for age discrimination before the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal and Court of Session. The case secured a favourable outcome for employers when looking to discharge future claims under a settlement agreement. 
  • Representing a Tier 1 contractor company in its defence of a holiday pay claim, including successfully devising a strategy which enabled the claim to be resolved at a commercial level while avoiding litigation by other affected employees.
  • Representing a large oil and gas operator in employment tribunal proceedings by an agency worker involving claims of age and disability discrimination. A settlement which was commercially beneficial to our client was secured, and a significant proportion of the costs incurred by our client were recovered under an indemnity from the agency.
  • Advising Transocean on the employment aspects of the sale of its drilling rig, the Paul B. Lloyd Junior to Dolphin Drilling.
  • Advising Smart Metering Systems on the employment aspects of the sale of its Battery Energy Storage System division to Voltwise.
  • Successfully representing a large contractor company in its defence of trade union backed unlawful inducement claims worth over £1 million.
